This is the land of great castles,
Romanesque churches and very beautiful towns a few km far from here, like the
medieval Asti, the new Olympic Turin or the beautiful
Alba, the capital of the Langhe.
And then a lot of sport: tennis courts 1 km
far, horse-riding in
several riding-schools around here, cycle rides in naturalistic routes, golf in
the wonderful golf course less then ten minutes far from our house...
Montechiaro: medieval
municipal tower, and outside the village northward, church of S.Nazario
(XIth century) with typical bell tower and a beautiful facade, one of
the most typical Romanesque monuments of Asti province.
Cortanze: dominated by the church and by the imposing quadrangular
castle (XIVth century), it is one of the best preserved castles of the
province although largely modified in the XVIIIth century, mainly in its
inside.
Montiglio: (gastronomic
festivals and white truffels) castle rebuilt in the XVth century with
a Chapel dedicated to S.Andrew, a Romanesque-Gothic masterpiece with an
important cycle of XIVth-century frescoes portraying nine episodes of
the Passion of Christ, a work by an unknown but excellent artist. Another
monument to be visited is the Romanesque church of S.Lawrence (XIIth century)
in the cementery area and inside a nave covered with a barrel vault, cruciform
pillars and capitals decorated with vegetal and zoomorphic ornaments.
Castelnuovo Don Bosco: with its beautiful historical
centre and the remains of its medieval castle; nearby Colle Don Bosco where it is possible
to visit the birth-house of the S., the lower church, a grandiose modern sanctuary, the
Salesian mother-house and the Salesian Missionary Museum (for information contact the
